Sharm El Sheik Egypt

Sharm El Sheik, 20 April

We stopped at Sharm El Sheik with the intention of going to St Catherines which is in the centre of the southern part of the Sinai Peninsula where there is a monastery. The monastery is believed to stand on the site where Moses encountered the burning bush and is at the foot of Mount Moses, believed to be Mount Sinai where Moses received the 10 Commandments.

We set out early in the morning into the Sinai Desert eager for our biblical history lesson, but sadly our bus had over heating problems. After using all of our bottled drinking water on the bus in an attempt to solve the problem without any noticeable improvement, we decided that discretion is the better part of valour and not wanting to be stranded in the desert without water we organised for a rescue bus to collect us,  abandoned our excursion and headed back to the ship.

It was particularly disappointing for two of our group, Shelley and Bill, for whom it was the third failed attempt to visit St Catharines!

One thing we did notice is that road rules appear to only be a start point for negotiation; this is two buses travelling in company on a divided road!

On the way back to the ship we observed a parked camel.  Not sure what model this one is… I thought of the Landcruiser Sahara but we were in the Sinai, so maybe not?
