Croatia 30 April

30 April/1 May Croatia

As we sailed into Dubrovnik we had a magnificent view of the walled city.

Dubrovnik is rated as one of the best medieval walled cities in the world and is beautifully preserved. Dubrovnik was damaged during the siege by Serb-Montenegrin forces following the breakup of Yugoslavia in 1991 when the city was shelled on several occasions with the loss of 114 lives. The artillery attacks on Dubrovnik damaged 56% of its buildings to some degree but the damage has since been repaired, with repairs being done in the original style.

We went ashore and wandered around the old city and then walked the entire length of the city walls that surround it.  The walk was quite challenging as it was a fair distance with lot of ups and downs, so we certainly got a decent workout as well as amazing views.

While we were in Dubrovnik, another Seabourn ship, the Spirit, was also visiting.  The Spirit is half the size of the Quest with only about 200 guests.

Zadar

Overnight we sailed to Zadar.

The Quest is a relatively small cruise ship (but not as small as the Spirit above) so we were able to dock at the edge of town and it was fascinating to watch the ship manoeuvre itself in without any assistance.

Zadar is another beautiful Croatian town with some magnificent churches, Roman architecture and remnants of Roman urban development.

We wandered around the town for a while soaking up the atmosphere and had a coffee in a cafe in one of the squares.
