Hamburg, Germany

We had about an eight hour sail in up the river Elbe into Hamburg, arriving at 8pm.

Another manhole cover unique to the town we are in

This image was captured just after our arrival taken from our seat in the dining room.

The next day we caught a shuttle into the city centre and did our usual walk around.

Rathaus – town hall

The church was built in 1874 on the site of a former church that was burned down. During World War II the church was irreparably damaged and the nave building was torn down. The tower was left and the ruins are a memorial to the destruction of the war.

St Nikolai memorial

Walking on, came across some sculptures.

Hamburg has a lot of interesting and avant garde architecture.

St Catherines Church. The base of its spire, dating from the 13th century, is the second oldest building preserved in the city.

An interesting juxtaposition of the old and the new – clock tower beside a communications tower in the background.

While waiting for the shuttle bus, we did a quick exploration of a nearby shopping mall.
